Ice cream shops in Plzeň

Plzeň is small but distinct. The historic centre — náměstí Republiky, the Smetana gardens and Rooseveltova street — is covered by one ice cream maker who works with farm milk, no ready-made bases or pastes, roasts the nuts in house, and puts cucumber, chamomile, rose or gorgonzola next to the classics. Those shops are seasonal, so in winter you have to look elsewhere.

Open year round is a place in Jižní Předměstí, south-west of the centre, with artisan Italian gelato, cones baked fresh, and vegan and unsweetened flavours.

Doubravka, on the eastern side of the city, is something else again: alongside gelato it does rolled ice cream, spread and rolled in front of you on a frozen plate from a base the shop makes itself, plus soft serve. It is the one address on this list where Italian craft and rolled ice cream come from the same maker.
