Ice cream shops in Brno

Brno packs its artisan ice cream close together and has a clear profile. Gelato made on the premises dominates, sorbets come with it, and plant-based ice cream is unusually strong: one maker sends pastel tuk-tuks out to Zelný trh, náměstí Svobody and the Lužánky park with all-plant scoops, and also runs shops and patisseries.

Most places sit in the centre and in Veveří next to it, where shops and cafés follow in a row. Many work with milk and cream from farms around the city and with fruit in season; one patisserie sweetens its ice cream with xylitol and erythritol instead of sugar.

Further out, Královo Pole, Řečkovice and Černá Pole have family patisseries serving cooked cream ice cream and soft serve, and Líšeň is known for savoury, genuinely bold flavours. The places in Bohunice, Bystrc and Horní Heršpice open for the season only; the Bystrc one is on the way to the reservoir.
